Freshman officers, although new to the school, can´t wait to make their impact on the freshman class. They believe that with hard work and dedication, they can help shape the freshman class for the better.
Freshman President Jaxson Barber stated, “I will try my hardest to shape the freshman class to the best that they can be and the best they can do. The freshmen have so much potential and I believe with enough time and patience we can be the best we can be.”
As president of Freshman House, Fourteen-year-old Jaxson Barber believes that he can help the freshman class win many things with time and patience.
“I will help the freshman class earn awards and win things but it will take time.” Jaxson got his motivation from seeing the things that were going on at Westwood.
Jaxson, who also struggles with anxiety, believes that mental health is very important.”Mental health is very important to me. Mental health is all about your mind and if your mind isn’t straight it will be very hard to focus.”
As Vice President of Freshman House, Fourteen-year-old Aniyah Foulks got her motivation from previous student council experiences. She was excited to connect with people as she wasn´t exposed to things in her community.
“I did student council last year in middle school and I really liked it. It allows me to connect with people because I´m not really exposed to a lot of stuff that goes on in my community.”
Aniyah wants the Freshman class to have their voices heard. She feels that a lot of the time people are scared to say things when it comes to benefitting themselves.
She wants the Freshman class to know that your voice is always heard no matter how big or small the situation is.
“I feel like a lot of times people are scared to say something when it comes to themselves and things that can benefit them so I just want people to know that your voice is always heard no matter how big or small the situation is.”
As Secretary of the Freshman House, Fourteen-year-old Zoe Williams believes that being secretary plays an important role in the student council as they take note of important things and assist the President and Vice President.
“I think being secretary plays an important role because they write important things down and they´re the President and Vice President´s assistant.”
Zoe found her motivation to run for Secretary from wanting an important role to help out and keep everything on track.
“I wanted to help out with the student council. I wanted an important role to help out. I wanted to run for secretary to keep everything on track as I’m good with that.”
Zoe didn’t run for President or Vice President because she felt like it would put too much pressure on her. She likes having tasks she knows she can do and being President would be too much.
“I like having tasks that I know I can do. Being the President personally induces too much stress for me. I don´t enjoy being at the top.”
Though these Freshman officers are new to Westwood, they are more than ready to transform the freshman class for the better.
