On March 27, Westwood PE Coach James Edmundson organized a basketball tournament in the auxiliary gym. Inspired by the NCAA March Madness tournament, which determines the national champions for both men’s and women’s basketball , Edmundson sought to bring a similar excitement to Westwood.
Edmundson has hosted a Basketball tournament before, but this current tournament is his first time at Westwood. Edmundson has been a PE coach for fourteen years.
Before the day of the tournament, Edmundson trained his students, with lots of practice rounds. Such as two two and shooting games . Edmundson allowed his students to choose their own team members and choose their own team name.
Before the tournament, Edmundson expressed the actual basic rules of basketball and teamwork itself was difficult to teach to some students. To improve the tournament Edmundson also states for students to have great attendance.

Edmundson enjoys watching students play Basketball, and also believes students enjoy playing. Edmundson’s advice or information for incoming students in P.E would be ¨do your best and have fun ̈ . Some requirements for Edmundson class is to participate , dress out , and wear the appropriate shoes.
Makahi Gantt is a sophomore P.E. student this year of twenty-five. Gantt enjoys the basketball tournament; he has not lost one game. Gantt’s favorite part of the tournament is when he gets control over the ball.¨Team makes the dream work¨.Gantt
Gantt’s least favorite part of the tournament would be watching other teams compete. If Gantt could change something about the tournament, he would change the fact that his class waits for a while before the tournament.
Gantt does not find the practice games hard before because he feels as if he doesn’t have competition against other players. Some advice for incoming students would be ¨be good before you play, practice before you get on the court.¨ you’re going to see how I put these 3´s up¨.Gantt
Kymari Gideon is a freshman here at Westwood and also attends P.E. year twenty-five. Gideon does not like the tournament because his team members aren’t that great. Gideon favorite
part is watching other teams play because they are really good.¨Work together as a team¨.
Gideon suggested having a practice time before teams start the tournament. Gideon does not find the practice games before the tournament and states he enjoys it. Gideon’s favorite practice shooting game was called Squid Games.
Squid games are when the students get lined up in one line and the student with the least amount of shots is illuminated. Advice for Gideon for incoming students would be to participate and make sure you’re wearing the appropriate shoes for P.E. And to wrap up this amazing event here at Westwood.
