In Westwood there’s a friendly rivalry going on against the librarians Ms.Carroll and Ms.Brown.They are both competing to see who can read to their height first.
They both have disadvantages though. Ms.Brown is reading all her books by herself whereas Ms. Carroll has the assistance of friends and Ms.Carroll is a little taller then Ms. Brown, so the question is, who will win?
Ms.Brown, who is 5 ‘8 and has already read 59 books said “I like to read a lot of books and I came up with my poster to make it look like a ruler”. She’s participating in the competition with her own goals and designs for her poster.
Ms. Brown got the idea to do this competition from Jordan Henry, a teacher at White Knoll Middle School. Even though it’s a middle school it gave the librarians at Westwood the idea to do this competition and make it their own by reading their favorite books and bonding about it.
“I don’t want people to be intimidated by the measurements” Some of the books on her ruler are books she read to kids. “Every little book helps,” she added. “Even small books count in the competition.”Ms.Brown’s favorite book on her stack is star splitting a science fiction.
She said the book is “ very different and interesting with two different perspectives”
Ms. Carroll, who is 5’9 and has read 52 books, is all about bonding with her team she has in the competition. Ms.Carroll said she’s doing this competition because she wants to “Celebrate the small group of readers at Westwood and bring together a small community of readers.”
Ms.Carroll wanted to make it known that she loves her group and the friendships she’s building during this fun competition. She said, “I get to read great books and talk to great people about books.” Bunt! Is a book Ms.Carroll really liked. She also liked a book called her good side.
She said she liked the book because it had “typical teenagers with typical problems”. She also likes the sweet ending.
This competition is not only for the librarians to compete but to encourage reading to Westwood students. They don’t win anything from the competition, only bragging rights. This competition has some students and faculty excited to see who will win.
Some students stand next to the measurement to see how tall they are compared to how many books the librarians have read. It’s a great and fun competition happening and a good way to promote reading.
The Westwood library is full of fun stories and Ms.Carroll’s and Ms.Brown’s measurements of how many books they’ve read so far. They have found a way to make Westwood even more interesting with this competition. This is the Librarian rivalry!
