Below are the retractions from our March 14, 2025 issue.
In the article The Wonders of Dance we said “Ms. Stribling’s journey as a dancer began in second grade, and she hasn’t looked back since. A memorable experience for her was in 2017 when her students won every category at their first competition in Charleston. She recalls the excitement and strong support from parents and staff making it unforgettable.”
Her actual quote was.
“One of many memorable moments at Westwood was from a dance convention I attended with my students in Charleston in 2017. For the gala performance, our dancers performed a piece inspired by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre entitled Takademe by Robert Battle. A former Alvin Ailey dancer served as the guest artist and adjudicator at the state dance conference that year. He immediately recognized the movement inspiration and the music, and he gave us high praise for our performance.”
“The dance we were working on during the interview explores how the body embodies the beats and rhythms of the musical accompaniment. It’s a contemporary dance piece. The pioneers of the contemporary dance movement created works that rebelled against the rigidity and restrictions of classical ballet.”
