The newly elected sophomore student council officers at Westwood High School are eager to foster a vibrant school community this year. President Kaleb Haynie, Vice President Kameron Haynie, and Secretary Emani White each bring their unique motivations and goals to the team.
Kaleb Haynie, the President of the Sophomore Council, is driven by a passion for leadership and a commitment to serving his fellow students. Motivated by his previous success in winning the position during his freshman year, he explains:
“Being in a leadership position is something I feel I’ve been made for and enjoy doing.”
This year, Kaleb aims to organize at least seven successful events and one or two fundraisers. He notes:
“Last year there wasn’t a lot to do, but now that I kind of understand everything that is going on in the school, I’m looking forward to hosting different activities.”
As he reflects on his time in high school, Kaleb hopes to be remembered for the contributions he made and the experiences he created for his peers.
“I want people to remember me for the things I did,” he adds, highlighting his desire to leave a lasting impact.
Vice President Kameron Haynie drew his motivation to run for office from his middle school experience, aspiring to be part of the student council even before arriving at Westwood High School. He shares:
“I wanted to become part of the student council even before I came here.”
In his role, he focuses on leading the planning of events and contributing innovative ideas. Kameron’s primary goal this year is to host a variety of events and encourage participation among his peers.
“My main goal this year is to participate and hold many events,” he states.
Ultimately, he hopes to be remembered as someone who gets things done.
“I want people to remember me as someone who always gets stuff done and ensures everything goes smoothly,” He adds, emphasizing his commitment to making a positive impact on the school community.
Emani White, the sophomore secretary, was inspired to run for office due to her active involvement in her community and school. She manages event approvals, takes meeting notes, and handles attendance.
“This year, I’m particularly focused on the Harvest Festival,”
She explains, seeing it as a prime networking opportunity. Emani hopes her peers will recognize her growth, stating,
“I really want people to see the growth that I am going through to reach a confidence that can be seen in plain sight.”
Though the year has just begun, Emani, Kaleb, and Kameron are ready to embrace their responsibilities and ensure a successful year at Westwood High School.
