With over one thousand six hundred students attending Westwood High School, student resource officers provide a secure environment at Westwood High School to help ensure the safety of the students at the high school.
SRO Deputy Grant expresses her daily life as an SRO and how she feels working at Westwood High School. Grant has been working at Westwood High School for four years. She works as a law enforcement, mentor, and counselor, but primarily a safety officer at Westwood Highschool
Deputy Grant states, “It is nice to have amazing staff members that are easy to work with so we can serve the students the best that we can”. She shows much gratitude towards the staff members at Westwood High School and enjoys her job.
Deputy Grant explains how when a physical altercation happens usually an admin gets there first. If it gets criminal, that’s when her and other SRO officers take action. When there are other conflicts she tries to cool it down and teach them ways to calm a conflict down.
She tells the students how to deal with conflict without having a physical altercation or hurting someone’s emotions. Although She loves her job, there are sad parts when it comes to wanting to help and change students who don’t want to be changed.
“Some kids don’t want to do what’s right. I can help them more than they want to help themselves” she stated. She wishes she could help all kids but there isn’t anything she is able to do.
Deputy Grant continues to help Westwood be the safest environment it can be for the students.
