With fall approaching, homecoming week is right around the corner, bringing excitement to all. As the Redhawks prepare for the pep rally, game, and spirit week, the school collides with unity and pride.
Bringing the enthusiasm around, our student council has come up with innovative and unique spirit dress-up days and lunch activities. The spirit days and activities started with Artist Day on Monday and guess the song in the courtyard.
On Tuesday, the school donned apparel from their dream colleges with the theme of College Pride Day. The excitement carried over to lunch with an energetic game of bingo in room 601, creating a fun and engaging environment.
Midweek, the courtyard was filled with harmonious melodies, and everyone dressed in their Sunday Best during the gospel concert on Wednesday, which provided a soulful experience for everyone. Thursday wrapped up the lunch activities with “Finish the Lyrics,” challenging students to complete lines from well-known songs, sparking laughter and camaraderie.
The student activities director, Ashley Truss discussed what they did differently this year.
“Having more lunch activities was new this year. We played musical bingo, finish the lyric, etc. Because we have two lunches, it can be cumbersome to have lunch activities but we made it work and enjoyed the lunch activities that went along with the spirit day.”
Thursday’s “FDOC” (First Day of College) theme had seniors imagining their future selves while Friday finished up the spirit days with a classic throwback of 2000’s jerseys. Friday also concluded the week with our Pep Rally.
Aidan Simmons, a varsity soccer player, commented on what he liked about the spirit week and lunch.
“My favorite theme day was definitely 2000’s Jersey Day. I participated in the college fit, college pride, and 2000’s jersey day. I liked the interactive activities during lunch so maybe we should do more of those, like a talent show or more trivia contests.”
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly the pep rally on Friday. The gymnasium was a sea of multiple school colors as they had Fraternities and sororities joining the fun. The school invited the Deltas, Q’s, Nupes, Alphas, Aka’s, Poodles, and Zeta’s.
With students and faculty alike showcasing their school spirit, the energy was visible as the cheerleaders and dancers performed dazzling routines, the band played heart-pounding music along with Allen University, and the sports teams were introduced to roaring applause.
It was a perfect prelude to the big football game against Spring Valley. Ashley Truss mentioned how she received help with homecoming week
“The community supported by providing supplies, a balloon arch created by a stucco parent, and supporting the homecoming football game. I received a lot of compliments regarding the homecoming theme being around college. The pep rally seemed to encourage and motivate students to start looking at college after seeing Allen University and the Devine 9 sororities and fraternities.”
The football game against Spring Valley was a highlight of the week as it was the homecoming game. The team played with determination and character, and the stands were filled with enthusiastic supporters. The outcome of the game was a win, the score being 26-0.
Crowning the Homecoming King and Queen was a momentous occasion. Ako Taylor and Tiana Green were bestowed with the titles, their smiles reflecting the joy and pride of the entire student body. Their crowning was a fitting end to a week filled with alliance, celebration, and school pride.
Homecoming Week was a mix of activities that left everyone with cherished memories and a strengthened sense of community. None of this could have been done without our Redhawk Student Council. Spirit week is always a time when the school can become awakened with morale, creativity, and devotedness, making it a special experience for all.
