As the 2025–2026 school year unfolds, Westwood High School welcomes the Class of 2029. This new group of freshmen brings a diverse lineup of talents and aspirations, marking the beginning of their high school journey.
To support the transition, Westwood hosted an orientation on August 5, 2025, where students previewed the year ahead. Students attended from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Activities included campus tours and opportunities to meet staff and faculty while learning school policies and expectations. Students who attended were able to meet some of the faculty and staff of the school and gain insights into school policies, academic expectations, and ways to be successful.
Geordan Addison, a freshman who joined the school a little later than everyone else, shared his experience on what it’s been like for him.
“I’ve been getting lost a lot. I didn’t know where to go at first, but now I understand it, and it’s starting to get easier.”
Beyond academics, students are encouraged to explore extracurricular activities in the arts, music, science, and other areas. The Student Council hosted a club fair during lunch on Wednesday, the 27th. Freshmen were able to buy snacks, join clubs, and meet new people.
Westwood values inclusivity and encourages participation in school-wide events, such as spirit weeks and dances.
Another freshman, Saniyah Walker, expresses her interest in the sports and activities she is looking forward to.
“I wanted to do softball and I wanted to do JROTC, but I don’t know about the clubs yet.”
The Class of 2029 is already engaging in activities, ready to make an impact, and continue the proud tradition of excellence at Westwood High School. The entire school looks forward to the impact and accomplishments this new group will bring, confident that they will uphold the proud legacy of excellence that Westwood is known for.
