Westwood’s National English Honors Society (NEHS) hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for club members on Wednesday night November 21st. This event nearing Thanksgiving break helped to bring club members together and bond over a meal.
The National English Honor Society (NEHS) is an organization/club that celebrates high school students who exceed expectations in English and literature. The club also encourages creativity and helps students bond with their peers who have a passion for writing; this event made it so that students could have a memorable experience.
Thanksgiving celebration took place in the front atrium of Westwood, where all club members gathered conversing and eating together. The director of the club Mrs. Savannah Lewter an English teacher at Westwood High School, discusses her reasoning for planning the event.
Lewter states, “I wanted an opportunity for us (NEHS members) to all gather together…it was an opportunity for us to get to know one another and start to build that relationship among the group.”
The event was first decided at NEHS’s most recent meeting on October 30th covering the time, place, and food. The food was brought in by club members and Savannah Lewter. The food consisted of pizza, Chick-fil-A, cookies, pastries, chips, and other small treats.
During the dinner students participated in little games and activities planned. One of these activities was turkey grams, where students could write and address a note to someone they were thankful for.
A club member, Holley Glover, speaks about her experience by stating, “We did some activities where we just laughed and talked and just got to know each other as other than just classmates. It really helped with bonding since I don’t usually interact with them (NEHS members) that much.”
This Thanksgiving dinner provided a fun and meaningful way for NEHS members to connect and build stronger relationships. As the event came to a close, everyone left hopefully bonding with their peers and having a nice Thanksgiving-filled dinner.
